Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says Nigerians are earnestly waiting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take over power at the federal level in order to enshrine good governance.
Governor Wike made the assertion at the inauguration of the 11.53 kilometers Agbonchai-Afam road, connecting Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas, and performed by the former Senate Majority leader, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume on Wednesday.
The governor said Nigerians have increased their yearnings for good governance, improved economy, and developmental projects that PDP has continued to provide in the states that it controls.report continues below
He stated that the hope of Nigeria depends on the Peoples Democratic Party.
“Eleme people, I want to sincerely thank you for the support that you’ve given to me and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Do not relent. Continue because the hope of this country depends on PDP.
He declared that the PDP is working in Rivers State and in other states that are controlled by PDP. He urged Senator Ndume and the APC to respect the wishes of Nigerians who are determined to return the PDP to power in 2023 to provide the dividends of democracy.
“To our special Guest of Honour (Ndume), he should not be angry because we are taking over from them. When they came, we didn’t fight, they took over. Now, that Nigerians have decided to change them, let them also handover to us as quickly as possible without any fight.”
The governor said he is satisfied to have fulfilled the campaign promise he made to Eleme people that he will reconstruct the once deplorable Eleme-Afam road. He said the completed road now serves as an alternative route to neighbouring states.report continues below
Governor Wike, also stated that his administration has completely rebuilt the Government Secondary School in Onne Town with the one in Eteo reaching the finishing level.
“Today, we are in Eleme commissioning Agbonchia (in Eleme)-Afam in Oyigbo Local Government Road. This road traverses two Local Government Areas. Nobody will say that we have not come to Rivers East Senatorial District to do anything.
“As I speak to you now, by the end of this month, we are coming back to Alesa Secondary School and Ascension High School. Those schools will be rebuilt completely.
“And because you gave me a good, reliable and trusted person who is my Commissioner of Finance, there is this other road here that needs attention, I will reconstruct it.”
Meanwhile, former Senate majority leader, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who inaugurated the 11.53 kilometers long Eleme-Afam Road said he felt truly humbled to perform the task and be part of what Governor Wike is doing in his state.
Senator Ndume described governor Wike as a true nationalist who is an important voice in national affairs across parties, and always stands out as one who speaks the truth to power courageously.
“Governor Wike is my very good friend, a trusted leader, a very honest person. One thing we have in common is that, as a leader, you must stand out and speak the truth even if you’re alone and Wike is known for that.
“There is new hope for the state and he is Wike. Now, Rivers is not only becoming a Garden City again but it is becoming a Golden City. May God continue to give you (Wike) the strength.
“And from today, know that you’re a leader in this country. If you’re not a friend and a nationalist, I will not be here, Fayemi will not be here and many other APC Governors.
“You’re one of the true Nigerians that I ever know. And if we have people like you that speak the truth to power, Nigeria would have been better off for all of us.”
Speaking further, Senator Ndume commended Governor Wike for his feat in the fight against insecurity in Rivers State that has given the people the liberty to come out to participate in such an event without fear.
“You don’t know what you have until you lose it. What you’re doing here, we will never try it in Borno State. You can’t invite people like this and everybody, comfortably, listening to somebody speaking without looking around. So, we have to thank God.
“Honestly, let me say here that Nigeria is lucky to have not only Rivers State but Rivers people. South-South, particularly the Rivers people are the great people of Nigeria. What you’re giving to this country; if Rivers is not there, Nigeria will not be there.”
Rivers State Commissioner of Works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi, said prior to this time the road was a nightmare replete with all the negatives that derive from such a situation. But, today it is something that brings joy and with it, the obvious tangible and psychological benefits that come with any good transportation access to any location or locality.
“This is an 11.53km long road project, 8.5m wide with 7km of drainage. It connects Eleme in Eleme LGA to Afam in Oyigbo LGA, a very good and useful road in the movement of farm produce and pursuit of local trade.”
Oby Ezekwesili Demands For Indepent Medical Evaluation Of President Buhari’s Physical and Mental Capacity To Govern Nigeria
Former Minister of Education and Presidential Candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has demanded for an independent medical evaluation of President Buhari’s physical and mental capacity to govern Nigeria.
She made this demand while reacting to the abduction of 317 students from the Government Girls Secondary School GSSS Jangena, Zamfara state.
”Yesterday I woke to the news of the abduction of over 300 school girls from GSSS Zamfara and the deepest pain hit me into a clamp-up. I rejected requests from @cnni, @BBCAfrica, @channelstv, @ARISEtv etc to be interviewed. What have I not already said these 7 years in Nigeria?
This morning in my personal prayer, I cried out to God, “Was this not why You asked me to STAND for Chibokgirls 7 years ago and give my ALL to their cause?” “Was it not to get @NigeriaGov to ACT DECISIVELY and forbid abomination from becoming the NORM in our Land, Lord?”
The abduction of 219 #ChibokGirls in 2014 was an ABOMINATION in our Land. What did we not do over the cause of 2 different Administrations to demand Justice for them so it NEVER REPEATS? Two Administrations egged on by their admirers failed to hear us and ACT DECISIVELY.
With 112 remaining #ChibokGirls FAILED by @NigeriaGov, 110 #DapchiGirls happened and #LeahSharibu remains unaccounted for. With #LeahSharibu abandoned, 334 #KankaraBoys happened, then 41 #KagaraStudents and now 317 #JangebeGirls yesterday. Abomination has become a Norm.
When KagaraBoys happened, outraged, I made the strongest possible DEMAND a citizen can regarding the failed leadership of @NGRPresident
@MBuhari. I wrote: Nigerians should collectively ask for an Independent Medical Evaluation of @MBuhari . Nothing else makes sense now.
It is NOT NORMAL for a Leader of a country to be carrying on unperturbed while SERIAL ABNORMALITIES occur all around him. There’s NOTHING NORMAL about the nonplussed manner @MBuharisits in Aso Rock uncaring that Nigeria is falling apart. Nigerians better WAKE UP to this.
My DEMAND goes beyond asking @NigeriaGov of @MBuhari to #BringBackJangebeGirls. My DEMAND goes beyond asking Justice of Rescue for our schoolgirls. My DEMAND is to commence the process for an Independent Medical Evaluation of @MBuhari ‘s Physical and Mental Capacity to govern”

President Muhammadu Buhari Vows To Deal With Insecurities In The Country
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that his administration will continue to deal with the insecurities which are a threat to innocent citizens across the country.
The President said this when he spoke at the joint security meeting of Northern State Governors’ Forum and traditional rulers on Thursday February 25.
Represented by Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president, Buhari said criminality should be handled without resorting to ethnic profiling.
“I must appreciate the efforts of the 19 Northern States Governors’ Forum for their contribution towards national growth and development, especially in this challenging period in our nation’s being where certain fundamental corporate existence need to be frankly deliberated upon and actionable resolutions reached.
This meeting is coming at a time when the nation is making steady progress in addressing the many challenges impeding developmental and progress. We are providing critical infrastructure such as roads, railways, airports among others which are critical to economic prosperity of our people as well as opening up economic opportunities for our citizens to pursue legitimate aspirations that grow the economy.
At the same time, we are confronting the various dimensions of security challenges that continue to slow down the emancipation of our people from poverty and economic deprivation. The Government shall continue to deal with insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other criminals who constitute a threat to innocent citizens across the country.
Criminals are criminals and should be dealt with accordingly, without resorting to ethnic profiling. I have already tasked the new Service Chiefs to devise new strategies that will end this ugly situation where the lives of our people continue to be threatened by hoodlums and criminals.
I expect that at this meeting, your Forum will also discuss and devise ways of building stronger collaboration with the security architecture and the people in defeating criminality across the region and the nation at large.”
‘I Have No Interest In Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition’- Ayodele Fayose
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday, said he has no interest in the rumoured presidential ambition of All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, in 2023.
Fayose, who stated this on a PUNCH Live interview, expressed confidence that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, would produce Nigeria’s president in the 2023 general elections.
He said “Bola Tinubu is a leader in the West. It is a statement of fact” but noted that he has not met or spoken with the former Lagos State governor in years.
Fayose said, “I have never met former governor Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the last three years and I have never spoken with him on the phone once. So, I don’t how they are tying the relationship politically.
“To the best of my knowledge, I am not a member of APC. I have no influence on how he will become if he wants to become. I have no interest; the only interest I have is that a PDP president must be put in place.”
“If this country exists for the peace and enjoyment of all us, we will not be talking about it is APC, it is PDP…A PDP man cannot attend a function with an APC man. An APC man cannot greet a PDP man, we can’t continue like that, it shows level of hypocrisy,” he added.
The ex-governor of Ekiti also said he has not abandoned his ambition to be Nigeria’s president. “The office of the president is a noble one and I will love to be the president of Nigeria if the opportunity permits,” Fayose stated.
