Manchester United and England striker, Marcus Rashford has said he regrets not playing for former Manchester United Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson in his career.
Rashford said this as he recieved his special award at the Football Writers’ Association’s annual tribute awards on Thursday, January 14, calling it the only ‘regret’ he has in his career.
The 23-year-old became the youngest ever recipient of the FWA tribute, which was awarded in recognition of his work to fight child food poverty.
Rashford has led a successful, but still ongoing, campaign to extend the provision of free school meals for vulnerable children throughout the coronavirus pandemic and Sir Alex Ferguson led the tributes to the Manchester United star who he has known since he was 7.
The 79-year-old, who left Manchester United in 2013, praised Rashford before he received the award from the FWA.
He said: ‘I have known him since being a kid of 7 years of age, and seen him develop through the ranks of Manchester United into a truly wonderful person.
‘Apart from his football life, what he has achieved in the last few months is quite astonishing, how he has helped the people in need is a truly amazing achievement.
‘I would like to congratulate him on that. He has shown to young people in particular there is a different way of dealing with life.
‘He has shown great humility, he has shown courage to do what he did, so this achievement is well deserved and should be recognised with what he has done.
‘So Marcus, well done on a fantastic achievement.’
After receiving the award Rashford said:
‘For me [hearing from Ferguson] was an unbelievable experience and I think for me that is probably the only regret I have ever had in my career, never having the chance to play under Sir Alex.
‘It is something which is probably never going to happen now but to be on the phone with him and just have 10 or 15 minutes conversation with him was amazing and I am pleased he was aware of the situation and he wanted to help as well, so it was brilliant.
‘He has always, from the beginning really, backed me with what I am doing.
‘Probably when other people in sports were telling me not to do it and just focus on football, he said if I believed in that, and I believe it is the right thing to do, then he is behind it. Those words from him are an amazing feeling to hear that.’
Ferguson has helped Rashford with his fight, previously pledging £2m towards the FareShare charity that Rashford uses in doing his charity work.

Nigeria’s Restructuring Should Be Driven By Economic Viability – AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina
The current President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has said that the restructuring of Nigeria should be driven by economic and financial viability.
He said this in a public lecture titled ‘Toward a New Nigeria From Federal Fatherism to a Commonwealth’ and delivered virtually from the base of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Ivory Coast for an event in Akure.
Akinwumi who stated that economic and financial viability are necessary for political viability, also called for a better way of supporting states in financing critical infrastructure.
He stressed the need to diversify the source of financing for states across Nigeria, noting that Nigerians in Diaspora remitted $24 billion in 2019, which accounted for half of crude oil exports.
Akinwumi suggested that resources in each state should be managed by the States which will in turn pay federal taxes and royalties to the Federal Government. He also urged state governments to focus on turning their resources into wealth based on their areas of comparative advantage.

Ebonyi state police spokesperson, Loveth Odah said Chukwube was arrested following a tip off.
“So her name is Chukwube Victoria, she told us she is a commercial sex hawker and that she has this baby which she carrying.
“She said if she leaves here she would continue to look out for prospective buyers.

“She even told us that if we allow her to go home with the baby she will throw the baby away and that she can’t tell who got her pregnant.”
Upon being interrogated, the lady refused to disclose her state of origin or local government but maintained that she does not have the financial ability to take care of the child.
“I am from Nigeria, 32 years old, a commercial sex hawker and my baby is just four months old.

‘It Slipped Out Of My Mouth’- Apostle Suleman Reacts To Video Of Him Praying COVID-19 Shouldn’t End
The General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has reacted to his statement in which he said that COVID-19 should not end because he was prospering and has been able to buy his third private jet as ‘slip’ out of his mouth.
In a video that trended last week, Apostle Suleman while preaching at a church program, said
“In COVID (pandemic) I bought a jet; the third one. I have three. I was praying for COVID-19 not to end because I was resting. While people were complaining. my wife asked, ‘Can life be this sweet?’ Am I talking to somebody here?”
His statement attracted lot from criticisms from many Nigerians for being over excited about a pandemic that took lives and crippled the economic lives of many including the people who attend his church.
In reaction, Apostle Suleman while preaching in his church on Sunday, February 21, said the video of him making the statement was edited by a fellow pastor who is an enemy of his.
“There’s a video that is trending about me. It was posted by a pastor against me. It was a programme I had in Abuja and I was trying to explain something about COVID-19. When they told me that I prayed for COVID-19 not to end, I said ‘me? I didn’t say that.’
When they brought the video, I discovered it slipped out of my mouth. There’s no pastor that will pray for Covid not to end. It doesn’t make sense.
I was talking about what happens around Covid, how families were staying together, how families united, how some people even made money during that process. That was what I was trying to buttress and it slipped out of my mouth. I could not have prayed for Covid not to end, no pastor would do that. But he (the pastor) took that mistake, edited some part and blew it” he said
He added that those who are angry that he bought a third private jet will just die.
“If you are angry I mentioned three jets, you go just die. That’s the truth”.
