Nigeria’s Restructuring Should Be Driven By Economic Viability – AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina

The current President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has said that the restructuring of Nigeria should be driven by economic and financial viability.
He said this in a public lecture titled ‘Toward a New Nigeria From Federal Fatherism to a Commonwealth’ and delivered virtually from the base of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Ivory Coast for an event in Akure.
Akinwumi who stated that economic and financial viability are necessary for political viability, also called for a better way of supporting states in financing critical infrastructure.
He stressed the need to diversify the source of financing for states across Nigeria, noting that Nigerians in Diaspora remitted $24 billion in 2019, which accounted for half of crude oil exports.
Akinwumi suggested that resources in each state should be managed by the States which will in turn pay federal taxes and royalties to the Federal Government. He also urged state governments to focus on turning their resources into wealth based on their areas of comparative advantage.

‘It Slipped Out Of My Mouth’- Apostle Suleman Reacts To Video Of Him Praying COVID-19 Shouldn’t End

The General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has reacted to his statement in which he said that COVID-19 should not end because he was prospering and has been able to buy his third private jet as ‘slip’ out of his mouth.
In a video that trended last week, Apostle Suleman while preaching at a church program, said
“In COVID (pandemic) I bought a jet; the third one. I have three. I was praying for COVID-19 not to end because I was resting. While people were complaining. my wife asked, ‘Can life be this sweet?’ Am I talking to somebody here?”
His statement attracted lot from criticisms from many Nigerians for being over excited about a pandemic that took lives and crippled the economic lives of many including the people who attend his church.
In reaction, Apostle Suleman while preaching in his church on Sunday, February 21, said the video of him making the statement was edited by a fellow pastor who is an enemy of his.
“There’s a video that is trending about me. It was posted by a pastor against me. It was a programme I had in Abuja and I was trying to explain something about COVID-19. When they told me that I prayed for COVID-19 not to end, I said ‘me? I didn’t say that.’
When they brought the video, I discovered it slipped out of my mouth. There’s no pastor that will pray for Covid not to end. It doesn’t make sense.
I was talking about what happens around Covid, how families were staying together, how families united, how some people even made money during that process. That was what I was trying to buttress and it slipped out of my mouth. I could not have prayed for Covid not to end, no pastor would do that. But he (the pastor) took that mistake, edited some part and blew it” he said
He added that those who are angry that he bought a third private jet will just die.
“If you are angry I mentioned three jets, you go just die. That’s the truth”.
