PDP sets plans for Sanwo-Olu

SANWO OLU

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos Chapter has advised the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strive hard to provide satisfactory dividends of democracy to residents of the state in 2021.

The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, said this in Lagos while assessing Sanwo-Olu’s performance in the previous year 2020.

He said, “As a constructive opposition party, the year 2020 was not satisfactory in terms of dividends of democracy to Lagos residents.

“Most of the local council chairmen performed below average, Sanwo-Olu should look into that because the chairmen are putting too much pain on the people due to their abdication of duties.

According to him, the party shared with the government of the day lots of programmes that will have brought succour to the people of the state.

He praised Sanwo-Olu for abolishing the bogus pension for former governors and their deputies in the state, describing the decision as populist.

“We have heard some people commending him if he can continue in that order, perhaps; he will have the guts to face the problem of godfatherism in his party.

“We want to counsel that he should look away from partisanship and be the governor for everybody, including the Igbo people, the Hausa, the Yoruba and all minority groups in the state,” he said.

Taofik Gani urged the Lagos government to review reducing the tuition fees in the Lagos State University, saying that the tuition fees’ increase was done at the wrong time.

The spokesman for the PDP, urged the governor to inspect inner roads across local government areas and council development areas to see their conditions, adding that most of them were in very bad shape.

According to him, the governor must roll out a programme to fix inner roads that could serve as alternatives to major roads for motorists in the state.

He called for direct empowerment for traders across party lines, saying that such would help elevate them to pay taxes to the government.

He also urged the governor to bridge the gap in transportation, saying that residents of the state were still finding it difficult to move around for businesses.

Gani said that Sanwo-Olu could surpass all his predecessors, including former Gov. Lateef Jakande because of the resources at his disposal.

He described the Eko Atlantic Project as bogus, saying that money being spent on the project could be used to transform the Mainland including Ikorodu, Badagry and Epe with vast land.

Gani said that such funds could be used to build housing estates for low-income earners in the state.

The restitution order read in part:

“If restitution is not paid in full immediately, the defendant shall pay to the Clerk at least $1,000 per month or 25 per cent of net income, whichever is greater, beginning 60 days after release from any period of confinement, or 60 days after sentencing if no confinement is imposed.

Kagara Abduction: We’ll Starve Schoolboys To Death, Says Abductors

Published

Kagara Abduction

The abductors of the 27 students and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State,  have threatened to starve them to death if the ransom they are demanding is not paid on time.

They made the threat in an audio recording on Wednesday by a prominent Islamic cleric,  Sheik Ahmad Gumi.

In the audio recording, the abductor, who spoke in Hausa, was heard conversing with a negotiator, identified by Gumi as a top official of the school.

He rejected N2.7m offered him as ransom for the 27 abductees.

The bandit stated, “I don’t have food for them. If anybody dies among them, we will tell you where to go and pick the corpse.

“You know these children are hungry. I don’t have food to give them, only water if they are going to die, let them die.”

The negotiator said it would be difficult for him to get the phone numbers of all the parents as requested by the bandits.

The bandit responded that he was aware that many security agents and vehicles had been deployed in Kagara, vowing they would not succeed in rescuing the abductees.

He asked,  “You think I don’t know what you people are doing? I can tell you how many security vehicles are in Kagara as we speak.

“It is with the help of the people of the city that intruders can overrun the city. Don’t you know that? The person who gave us this business is there among you. He is there with you. Wherever you go, he is watching you. If you want to do this deal, go ahead. From God we come and to him we will return

“Even if you put together the entire security forces of Nigeria in Kagara, I have eyes all over Kagara. Whichever step you take in Nigeria, I swear,  I will know. You people are saying they should not pay us, that if they pay us, we will use to money to buy weapons.  With whose money did we buy our weapons? If we don’t have weapons, you will just send security agents to kill us and take the children.”

Appealing to the bandit, the negotiator stated, “They (parents) have agreed to pay N2.7m. Each parent will pay N100,000 .”

But the abductor rejected the offer threatening to unleash terror on Kagara.

If I die in this process, I have children that I have instructed that if I die that I don’t want Kagara to be peaceful if you don’t do as I say. Even if I die, nobody will come into Kagara.”

He also berated governors, who said they should not be paid ransom.

He added, “Governors are saying we should not be given money because we are going to use it to buy guns; guns that Allah provides and you are boasting about.
